I have a unit that when added to the DCS list the ditch light function appears. Now this unit does not have ditch lights. Upon removing shell there is a wired spring board that is not used. I put a different shell on that has and is wired with ditch lights and has the spring pickups in placed. Yet no ditch light function. Is it possible that the hardware is installed but not programed in to it. Could a new sound file be installed that would bring this function to life or is it already there since it comes up as a function. I suppose the spring board that’s wired is not for ditch lights, but I was just going by that option appears on the light control menu.

You'd have to be a lot more specific as to the specific chain and sound files you're using. Not all of them include the ditch light function, so clearly it will depend on what you load. The hardware is the same, so it's the chain and sound files that determine this function.
Find a similar model that has ditch lights, and loading those files should enable the ditch light function.
I think you answered my question, even though the hardware is there, it needs to have the sound files that would have ditch lights on them. I will ask this, as I am curious as why is the ditch light function showing where the lights on/off options are at. Does that get loaded regardless of what sound files are on it?
I can't say for sure why the ditch light option is presented, it's obviously in the descriptions in the sound file. I have seen options appear where they are not active pretty regularly, I suspect they just forget to take them out when compiling the sound file. OTOH, stuff like that doesn't always appear, so I suspect it's a mistake.
