Currently in the process of building our Christmas layout, and we don't to spend all kinds of $$ of Lionel fastrack supports. Does anybody have any cheap DIY ideas that can serve as stand ins? I've been thinking about using PVC pipe cut to the specified lengths. Would this work?

How about blocks cut from a 2' x 4'. Cost: $2.50
Michael;
How about some simple 1"x4" pine, cut to appropriate heights??? You could attach the Fastrack to the supports using the existing screw holes in the track. If you want get a little fancy, you could cut the pieces sort of like an I-beam - wider at the top and bottom, narrower in the middle. A little paint and instant supports.
Happy Thanksgiving (I'm old enough to remember when Christmas didn't start till the day after Thanksgiving )
How about using a dowel rod and cut it to length. Three eighths inch or larger(half inch) should work well and support your track, also you can put a screw from the bottom of the layout into the dowel rod for more support. A 2 by 4 or even a 2 by 2 is too wide most of the time. PVC pipe is difficult to attach to unless you have an end cap and PVC pipe can expand a little due to temperature.

2x4 cut to length and held to track with screws will work fine. Paint the 2x4 gray for a nice looking concrete support look.
