Hi Guys & Gals
I do not own a Legacy or Cab 1L system . I like the Lionel Legacy models especially the Diesels !
I realize I will not be able to use the couplers remotely .
Thanks in advance for your info !

You get the prime mover and horn and bell. I’m not sure if there are other ways to operate the added functions of Legacy in conventional but you really get the full schabang with the cab2
From a Legacy steamer manual...
In the conventional environment, you will experience several features of the LEGACY RailSounds
sound system.
• DynaChuff. Your locomotive's speed automatically determines the character of the chuffing
sounds. At low speeds, the chuffing sounds are longer. When you highball down the mainline,
the chuffing intensity becomes more percussive.
• MultiWhistle. A different whistle sound at different speeds.
• Mechanical bell. Press BELL on your transformer to begin the effect, then press BELL a
second time to discontinue the effect.
• CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcements. These brief conversations between
the train crew and the tower are triggered by short whistle blasts.
In the conventional environment, CrewTalk dialog and TowerCom announcements are triggered by
short whistle blasts and vary with the state of the locomotive.
• If the locomotive has been stopped for less than 15 seconds, a short whistle blast triggers a
“please standby” dialog.
• If the locomotive has been stopped for longer than 15 seconds, a short whistle blast triggers
a “cleared outbound” dialog.
• If the locomotive has started moving within the last seven seconds, a short whistle blast
will trigger a "train is underway" dialog.
• If the locomotive has been moving for more than seven seconds, a short whistle blast will
trigger a "are we clear?" dialog.
The short answer is yes, you get get a very nice running locomotive in conventional mode.
In my opinion, my Lionel Legacy engines (a New Haven ten wheeler and a New York Central S-motor) operate very well in conventional mode. Smooth running at all speeds with prime-mover sounds, bell and beautiful whistle.
MELGAR
WRGMILW,
Running a Legacy engine in conventional is like taking a shower with a rain coat on. Buy the Legacy system, one wire to install, read the manual once and your set.
JohnB
Thanks Guys !
To JohnB , I know how to hook up the TMCC, Legacy, & CABL systems . I just do not own one at this time !
I had TMCC when it first came out ! I had lots of LIONEL & ATLAS & KLINE TMCC engines up to 2002 when My Wife & I lost our jobs ! I started my third era of O-gauge in 2007 !
I like the TMCC & CABL controllers better than Legacy controller !
I am Looking at Lionel Legacy GP-9 in CNW colors or a Burlington Gp-9 as well !
Most of my Engines are MTH that I run conventionally at this time .
Basically you don't get the goofy cab chatter, which is fine by me .
