Did MTH make a Railking model I'm unaware of, or is this one of the ATSF Railking 4-8-4s that they've redecorated in other roadnames?
I did stop to see NC&StL #576 in Nashville yesterday, her headlight is large but not freakishly so.
Your eyes are not playing tricks on you. L&N did use large headlights, and displayed the engine number on the glass.
I can't recall if they also had lighted number indicators, or whether the headlight was the only lighted indicator.
MTH's RailKing "Big Emma" is hardly an accurate model of an L&N Berkshire. It's merely a less detailed, selectively compressed "traditional sized" model of an NKP Berk lettered L&N.
Here's what an L&N "Big Emma" looked like:
Neither MTH or Lionel has made an accurate "Big Emma."
Trains Magazine did an extensive article on the "Big Emma's" in December 1972. Here's a copy of a builder's photo from that article:

I recall reading somewhere that L&N berkshire was the last of the berk built.I do like the way they are numbered.I have the 1967 berk because that is the year I was born.
That is one beautiful rig... I found another picture with great contrast showing the detail of the piping. Thanks for sharing.

Nice except that photo is NOT of an L&N 2-8-4.
The above was not an L&N but this one is 1962 of the L&N lines. Check out the Passenger liners. I wish I could id those.
