"...the Lionel 450 signal bridges are metal. I cleaned the paint off and soldered some small brass strips to splice them together, then touched up the paint."

That's the way - and, also, 2-part epoxy is a strong and good bonder of metal parts, nearly the equal of solder if you get a decent-sized bonding footprint (solder is stronger, but in the real-world, "strong enough" is what we need). So, using the same splicing-piece technique - and make the pieces large enough to get a good bite - , use epoxy instead of solder for a good bond, if the structure is receptive (will look good afterwards).

A lot of guys are uncomfortable with soldering; I use both methods, but basic soldering, which is all I do, is a simple skill that is good to learn. It won't bite (unless it's still hot!)

Joe, the Lionel 450 signal bridges are metal. I cleaned the paint off and soldered some small brass strips to splice them together, then touched up the paint. If soldering isn't your thing, there glues that will work for this.

I was referring to the MTH PRR signal bridges. I don't think 450's will work for me because scale Autoracks and container trains won't fit under them. But thanks for the tip. The wiring will be the tricky part. With 450's you can easily move the signal's around but I'm not sure if the same goes for MTH's PRR signals.
