Hello guys and gals..........

Does Lionel's #29310 Deep Sea aquarium car uses "black light" for illumination and motor drive (small can motor with gear box) not a buzzer coil from the postwar days ?  Does anyone have a video of one operating ?  I am thinking of purchasing one.

I have the Lionel Deep Sea aquarium car and it does not use a black light for illumination. I had hoped it did so was a little disappointed to find out it uses a standard bulb that isn't very bright. Also, the motor that turns the film is fairly loud too so we tend to turn that off (switch on bottom of car). Otherwise it looks really neat. If you could convert it to blue colored LED lighting, that might be really neat. Sorry, no video.

Hello TRK...........

Thank you for being honest about this.  I kind of knew it was too good to be true and I know Lionel sometimes makes big promises but often make changes to cheapen it.  I had to ask to know otherwise. Lionel has let me down too many times in last 40 years and so I try to get as much information before making a expensive purchase.  If it did come with a black light, then it would have been very cool car !!!!  Its too bad Lionel had to ruin this neat car by not using a black light.  I have a MTH railking aquarium car #30-79280(blue marlin) ,this car is very well made.  I had it for 4 years now and it still works great ,it uses 3 blue LED's for illumination.
