Yes.  As long as the bulb is a 6V bulb you can do that. There is a small note in the steam upgrade kit addressing this.

 

You will also find that many PS-1 engines that use Constant Voltage boards to support lighting are using 6V bulbs.  You can even use these bulbs.

 

You can't use the 1.5V or the 18V bulbs, and you don't want to have a bulb use a separate Chassis ground.  The PS-2 does not have a common ground with the track for any of the outputs.  G

Me I'd want to change the bulb's to LED's Why? because I'd probably never have to worry about changing them ever again. The 3mm round top warm white LED from Evans Designs fits the MTH bulb holder perfectly . The constant voltage lighting output will power them just fine.
