There was a note that in the DCS user group minutes that the Proto3 upgrade kits will require more changes than the Proto2 upgrade kits, like changing light bulbs to LEDs.
Don't bulbs have to be replaced now with LEDS when doing an upgrade to Proto2 from Protosound?

No. PS2 circuits could take 2 small bulbs, as I recall. On none of the upgrades I did did I change bulbs to LEDs--I did have to change LEDs to different LEDs.
Most PS-2's seem to use small 6 volt bulbs for headlight, backup light, cab light. LED'd are used for marker lights mostly.

Yes. As long as the bulb is a 6V bulb you can do that. There is a small note in the steam upgrade kit addressing this.
You will also find that many PS-1 engines that use Constant Voltage boards to support lighting are using 6V bulbs. You can even use these bulbs.
You can't use the 1.5V or the 18V bulbs, and you don't want to have a bulb use a separate Chassis ground. The PS-2 does not have a common ground with the track for any of the outputs. G
Me I'd want to change the bulb's to LED's Why? because I'd probably never have to worry about changing them ever again. The 3mm round top warm white LED from Evans Designs fits the MTH bulb holder perfectly . The constant voltage lighting output will power them just fine.

Most bulbs in my sets are original. Makes sense to wait until when and if they have to be changed.
