I have a C&NW PS1 doodlebug that I bought new. I don't have the trailer - sorta wish I did. The battery was replaced with a BCR. It has nice start-up sounds, and once underway engine sounds ramp up with an increase in throttle.

It gets run several times a year without any problems. My layout has 042 and 031 curves and switches, it navigates them nicely.

I have no reservations about recommending it to you.

I have two, a B&0 with just a horn and a UP with PS-2. The B&O runs great. The one with PS-2 was DOA and unfortunately I neglected to test it when I first got it, so when I finally got around to running it, it was off warranty. I eventually scrounged a 5v PS-2 motherboard off a junker and now it runs nicely too. I like the sound set on the PS-2 version - sounds more like a big semi or bus starting up than a train.

The B&O with a horn is for sale, if anyone is interested.

I have the MTH one, and the MTH Sperry car which will be converted "back" into one,

and a running kit built American Standard Car Co. version.   Other Walthers gas electric kits await work.  Mine are all conventional, so no running problems with them,

except for the Sperry car...dunno if I will render it conventional.  I am a fan of these,

so will run several as trains, including switching and bringing home one car.

I have the MTH RK PRR doodlebug that I upgraded from PS1 to PS2.  Runs great and I love the station stops and the callout of the stations.  It's a great one for those of us with smaller layouts.  You can add one freight car or one passenger car and you have a train!  I like it with a woodside 40' freight car.

I have this one too, works fine.

I have the PS-1 equipped Santa Fe one.  I got it because my grandpa had built a 7.5" gauge one and I grew up riding behind it.  It's a fun little one to run around on my carpet loop.  It's out of service right now because the windshield fell down, again.  I really need to figure out how to keep it up, super glue isn't cutting it for some reason.

Nicole, Thanks for providing the YouTube link.  I new about the V1 by Germany in WW2, but I had no idea that London & the countryside had been hit by 8,000 of them!  I was really shocked to learn of the number. The number of V1's then, seems almost unbelievable for that time.

I'm a post war baby boomer born 1947, but you would think something of this magnitude would have been in the history books when I went to school.
Thanks again for your post as it is an important part of history.
