This is the whole story of my dilemma with this 30-1231-1 Dreyfus Hudson:
This is my progress to date. The engine is together, but the tender is not. The reason I took this locomotive apart a few years ago is the that wires in plug on the tether of the tender harness lost continuity. Foolishly, I did not take pictures and write notes assuming that MTH had an assembly diagram I could download.
Where does the 2-pin plug (red & black wires) of the battery harness plug into the electronics?
Where does this spacer belong?
The tender harness on the right is the original from the tender. The harness on the left is a replacement from MTH. Note that the length of the branches are considerably different. I am considering salvaging the original harness by cutting the plugs at the bottom of the photo off of each harness, and splicing the new plug onto the old harness. Are the wire color codes the same?
The locomotive is the old school 5V PS2, and it works fine. That is, it was working fine at the time I took it apart a few years ago. Should I expect any trouble because of the down time?
Last but not the least is the function of the screw in the truck between the axles to the left. I suspect that there should be an axle a wiper across the axles, but there is no chassis ground lead coming off of the electromagnetic coupler as there is in other PS2 locomotives. It appears there never was one on this engine. Is the screw non-functional on this locomotive?
Hopefully someone with a 30-1231-1 will chime into this post and help me get this Dreyfus Hudson back on the railroad.
Thanks all for your suggestions, but the saga continues.
Hence forth, I will photo all locomotives and rolling stock I take apart
