In April, 2011, George Lasley and I began construction on the new Duckunder Terminal Railway.  Today, almost seven years later, we put the finishing touches on the final scenes within the final addition.  It seems like only yesterday that we began the new project.

Earlier tonight I posted photos of the Dithers & Bumstead Corporation loading dock where a new trailer has been added for transporting freshly-made Dagwood sandwiches to local markets (https://ogrforum.com/...bumstead-corporation).

Now here are pictures of the last building, the venerable So. Omaha Terminal Warehouse, which models the real thing that was only recently razed in Omaha.  The beat-up, ugly old building specialized in receiving dog food in bulk for the Omaha area.

A crane is hoisting a new HVAC unit for placement atop the So. Omaha Terminal Warehouse.  The crane is a veteran of the original Duckunder Terminal Railway.  It seems fitting that the crane would be the final element added to the new Duckunder since it was among the first to be removed from the old layout.

The scene surrounding the ugly warehouse is the Columbus, Ohio terminus of the N&W, which I model.  Above it sits the big yard at Portsmouth, Ohio.  Also modeled are Norfolk Terminal (coal pier, merchandise yard, and passenger terminal); Suffolk (with Planters Peanuts and the iconic Lipton Tea plant, as well as five other industries); Roanoke; Properity, WV (two coal tipples); William, WV (two more large coal tipples); and the York Fork branch (three more coal tipples).  In all there are nine interesting coal mines with tipples scattered around the new Duckunder.  Lastly, on its own "Duck Island" is a large engine terminal with turntable and roundhouse.  The Duck Island terminal boasts its own power plant and water treatment plant.

George Lasley scratch-built the So. Omaha Terminal Warehouse building (the second time he built one--the first is on a friend's layout in Omaha) as well as all the other buildings in the photos.  As usual, he brought the scene to life!

All are welcome to visit if you get to Raleigh.

Congratulations on the completion of the Duckunder. It is quite an accomplishment for you and George.

Birdsong Peanuts is considering an addition for their "International Division" and you may need to add space in Suffolk. Coal traffic in Norfolk is increasing and the pier may need an upgrade. Don't close up the construction department yet.

If anyone is traveling near Raleigh, be sure to contact Will and schedule a visit. The railroad that he and George have created is incredibly well done and he is a wonderful and welcoming host.

Don,

Great to hear from you!

The N&W Train Master is just as Lionel made it and not a repaint job.

After N&W acquired the Virginian, the fleet of VGN Train Masters were repainted into this livery and renumbered with a "1" in front of their VGN road number.  The N&W 151 thus was the 51 on the VGN.   I believe this was a 2012 Lionel release, the only Train Master 3-rail model I know of in N&W colors.

By the way, as the newly-elected TCA Southeastern Division Secretary, I want to let you know that there will be no TCA show at the NC Fairgrounds in the spring;.  Instead, the NRVMRC has rented the Scott Bldg for a one-day show on Saturday, May 5th.  Hope you can make it!  Contact George for details.

Cheers,
