Haven't seen it mentioned on here, nor lately on national news..did it get into town, or Silverton, or damage D&S infrastructure? Has it been brought under control? Hope it didn't get to mines in Red Mountain Pass or the restored mine in Red Mountain Town...

Here is an article on the current status. http://www.newsweek.com/colora...cres-two-days-994620
Basically they are letting it burn, waiting for the July rains to help extinguish it. If you are looking for other stories on it, search for "416 fire."
Durango & Silverton resumed operations on June 22.
Heard on the news that they got an inch and a half of rain over the weekend - helped things a lot.
It's going to be a rough year over in that neck of the woods for fires. Reports from locals who live in and around the D&RGW narrow gauge country said that they had little to no snow this year. I know that the D&S is looking into converting the 491 K-37 class locomotive into an oil burner to help during particularly dry summer seasons, but that won't be done anytime soon since the 491 needs to undergo a full restoration. So far the C&T haven't had any trouble with fires (knock on wood), but the National Forest Service has just recently shut down parts of the Carson National Forest which the C&T runs through.
