Hi there Dave, thanks for the prompt reply.
I was given permission to check engine, DCC DCS switch makes no difference, only 2 rail / 3 rail switch quietens the slight speaker buzzing / clicking sound in conventional mode.
I checked all wiring is ok, checked plugs pins are ok and reseated, tested speaker with music from Iphone and sounds fine, and checked smoke unit, motor and fan rotates smoothly, etc.
The speaker makes a quietish buzzing sound in variable conventional voltage from about 1.5 - 3 V up to about 9 V then it sort of goes away with voltages above that, but when power removed, it makes a slowing down or lowering of frequency sound as the caps discharge. In dcs mode with constant 18 V it's dead quiet, but Tiu cant find engine, and speaker still makes lowering frequency sound quite a few seconds after removing dcs power as caps discharge.
I tried conventional changing direction, varying voltage slowly and fast, and I did wait for quite a long time incase caps needed to charge, but there's no lights, nothing except that quiet speaker buzzing.
There was no smoke fluid messed on board, system was pretty clean and wires not even slightly squashed or pinched anywhere. My DCS and conventional systems have never been unstable or done anything funny to my other engine, the Hudson steamer, and this engine was like this since I first tried it, so I wonder if just a bad board?
Wonder if MTH will send me one, as I would guess its that main board with all the caps on, and not the smoke unit or the smaller control board with the DCS and 3 rail switches and stuff on.
Hope MTH can help.
Hi there Dave,
Thanks for the reply,
Yes, I was allowed to open and check, the DCC / DCS switch doesn't fix, it's dead in both directions, with conventional and DCS track power, but the slight clicking on the speaker does disappear if I switch 3 rail switch to 2 rail, so there is power going into the system.
I opened and checked all wiring is ok, removed plugs and checked all pins and firmly reseated them, I checked all other plugs in the wires, tested the speaker which plays music cleanly from an Iphone, and took the smoke unit's motor and fan off which looks fine. Can't see anything else on the board, sounds like there's something not well judging by the slight clicking in speaker which starts off when powered up and slightly quietens as the caps charge, and then after removing engine from power the speaker makes a buzzing / clicking sound decreasing in frequency when I presume the caps are or have discharging. No power no motion, no lights, just that speaker sound, it's not loud, and doesn't change if I play with the volume for sound and smoke screws on the pannel below the radiator fans. Only switch that affects it is when switched to 2 rail, and this speaker sound only occurs in conventional power, it's dead quiet on DCS power, but TIU won't find engine.
Maybe it's quiet in DCS because voltage is high at 18 V constant, and speaker makes a bit more noise on conventional variable voltage from about 3 V up to about 9 or so, then gets quieter as I raise voltage, and then when caps drop charge after removing power, as I said above speaker goes through decreasing frequency / sound good few seconds later after removing power.
