I'm helping some neighbors to sell a bunch of trains since the owner died suddenly this year. All HO except for this RK Mohawk (30-1166-1) NYO&W from 2000. I started it up at the club layout with a Z4000 in conventional and all seemed fine - sound came right up and she cycled through forward and reverse a couple of times. Now I'm home and have it on my bench with PS2 (only) to test the DCS  and  the remote comes up "No engine to add" after multiple tries. She's sitting there with 18v on the track nice and silent as she should. The track is but about 45" in length.

There appears to be no charging jack. Will the tender charge just sitting on the track with power on?  Am not familiar with these early PS models. Yes, there is a small 'PS2 Freight' sticker next to the volume pot underside of the tender...

Sam,

Will the tender charge just sitting on the track with power on?

Yes, it will.

However, if the engine operated in forward and reverse conventionally, the battery should be charged enough for DCS.

Regardless, I'd swap the battery for a new one, charge the new one overnight and then attempt to add the engine to the remote.

After it did not work in DCS did you go back to try it in conventional?  If so did it work?  If so, go back to DCS and do a recover engine and see if you can get it?  If not, go back to conventional and do a Feature reset with 1W and 5B, then go back to DCS and try again.

No difference in operation with DCS for an early PS-2 5V system.  G

Hi GGG

Last evening was the first chance I've had to try it with the Z4000. Whereas it started up before and ran, this time - nothing. I hit 1 W and then 5 bells anyway, but it stayed dark...
