I was re-watching the Pentrex tape "Huntington Steam Celebration" which was filmed during the 1991 NRHS convention in Huntington, WV.  One of the three featured steam locomotives was Nickel Plate #765 (ring a bell anyone).  At one point the narrator mentions the name of the engineer at that point on the excursion, "Rich Melvin."  Unfortunately they didn't get a good shot of Rich, so its hard to see how much he has changed over the years.

One question I have for Rich is this:  The whistle on the Pere Marquette 1225 sounds "shriller" than the whistle on 765.  Is it simply because they used a different whistle, or was there something wrong with the whistle on the 1225?  Thanks!

The 1225 has a completely different whistle.

Yeah...that video was shot back when I was young and skinny. If you really want to see what I looked like back in the era, get our video, "Runnin' That New River Train." Shot in 1990, you'll spend about 40 minutes in the cab with me as we handle a 32-car New River Train on the old C&O out of Huntington - same route as the Pentrex Video.

It's on sale - $5 off the regular price until the end of the year.
