With Amtrak bowing out of excursions and NS as well, that leaves no class 1 in the eastern US willing to host excursions. That leaves us with regular Amtrak trains, commuter railroads, and tourist lines. You could probably ride an Amtrak circle trip from Philly to DC, then to Pittsburgh and back to Philly for a nice long ride. You would have to change trains in DC and Pittsburgh. Maybe stay overnight in DC or Pittsburgh. In northeast PA we have Reading and Northern and Steamtown for long excursions. There will still be trains to ride no matter what the class 1’s and Amtrak do. I wonder if P&W will still be able to operate excursions since they sometimes operate on Amtrak. They just had an excursion and it used Amtrak for part of the route.

I was on that P&W trip sitting with my wife in the observation car. A huge amount of fun.

Still trying to figure out if this is a complete shutdown of allowing trips on their rails or if they are just killing having their trains pull varnish.

The P&W trip was under the wires of the NEC but had no Amtrak power or people associated with the trip.

One of my life goals was to rent a private car for 5 days to tour around the southwest. Looks like that won't happen.

Supposedly the Governor of West Virginia, is working on President Trump to intervene. They have lost a lot losing the 2 weekend New River Train Excursion.....Time will tell...?

Several Railroad Clubs make money leasing their Passenger cars around the country, and the new deal with Amtrak, stop there movement around the country....!

OK, suppose some disaster like a major bridge fails, and a special train needs to be established for a temporary commuter service.  But the service could not start because the equipment was on some fall special somewhere?

Or there was a major wreck somewhere and Amtrak had to cancel trains because that equipement was tied up on the special.

That would blow up in Amtrak's face faster that TNT from the ACME Corp. Of Loony Toons fame!

However to make it fair does it mean the House Republicans cannot charter a train to that WV hotel?
