I note that with the picture just posted from 3rd Rail on the Yellowbonnet it appears to have the Dark Blue / Black pilot. From what pictures I have seen those were used in freight. I personally hope that 3rd Rail goes with the silver pilot as used on 315L. I will get it either way, but much prefer the silver pilot for passenger. Look at the bottom left picture and heading on page four the link. #333L. I will probably e-mail 3rd rail later today with my requests / comments/>

Guys, Thanks for your input and guidance. We have implemented more controls on color and lettering than ever before. It is and will payoff in the future. 

 

I dream of the day I can take an order for a special diesel / road and hit the 3D Print button. Some day maybe.

Apparently I'm missing something, because all I see on their website is the illustration that PTC posted above showing a silver pilot with black coupler. Where is the photo posted showing the black/blue pilot?

Seems to me there is HUGE potential right now for your company doing built-to-order runs. The pricing disparity between 3rd Rail and the other major players is pretty much non existent right now, and you're more able to get highly detailed, high quality product built and shipped on a timely basis.

 

i have visions of a 3rd Rail Alco C-415 right now....

Here's an update on the 3rd Rail F7 Project:

 

Design of each road type A and B is finished. Sample being produced. Reservations are full. Closing reservations soon. Production begins February 5th. These models will be finished in March for an April Delivery.

 

Features Include:

- Fixed Pilot

- Horizontal Drive, Canon FN38 Motor, all metal U-Joints.

- Full Cab Interior Detail with Light and Figures

- Road Specific Detail

- Ngineering Mars Light Circuit for 3 Rail (QSI Mars Light Function in 2 Rail)

- ERR and New Railsounds in 3R, QSI "Titan" DC/DCC With Digital Sound in 2 Rail.

Thanks Scott for the update. This is an exciting project for me personally as I have three sets of passenger cars just waiting for the arrival of the F7's. I am especially looking forward to the Yellow Warbonnets. These F7's will undoubtedly be the best ever produced in 3-Rail O-Gauge.

 

Can't wait for April.

To me, the yellow bonnet era was not the finest hour of Santa Fe passenger or freight F7's and F9's

 

 

 

You're right Tom and not being a SF modeler I never realized this scheme didn't enter the scene until the very late 60's. Truthfully, too late for my era, but I've always loved the paint scheme (must be the UP in me) so I ordered a set. First non-UP locomotive I've ever ordered.

There is quite a bit of interest in them, and I am glad that Scott is willing to make the paint scheme available.  Many modelers are fond of the unusual and unique paint on the very small number of repainted passenger units.  And I always appreciate a well-done model.

 

The reason I have no interest in the yellow (or blue) bonnet is that it reminds me of the last, sad, days of Santa Fe freight F7's when they were allowed to become very shabby and uncharacteristically filthy, while still earning their keep as they waited for their appointment for conversion to CF7 in Cleburne Shop.  It was embarrassing to see the poor old F-units in that condition on a railroad that traditionally ran some of the cleanest diesels in the country.  I just prefer to remember all the Santa Fe F-units, freight and passenger, when they were in their prime.
