Tonight was the last night CSX crews operated MARC trains out of Washington. This is a tradition going back to the B&O in 1827 when the B&O began running out of Ellicott Mills in 1827. As most probably know, B&O went to Chessie then to current CSX. Come Monday, Bombardier takes over.

The last trains going up the old B&O Main had B&O Emblems on the rear of the cab car as well as the nose of the locomotive. Some conductors were dressed in the B&O Passenger uniform.

Bombardier now operates the trains. CSX no longer runs them, ending a nearly 200 year tradition that began with the B&O.

Our train had a B&O emblem on the nose of the lead locomotive, an MPI MP36. The second, the MARC 74, a former B&O freight locomotive, also had the emblems on both sides of the cab. Of course, the emblem was on the rear of the cab car as seen in the photo.

Nice touch... I was off work, but now regret not watching one or two of these trains running past my office in Silver Spring.

Of course the shame here is lobbyists for Bombardier convinced under educated Maryland state pols that their primary competitor was evil because the Nazis had forced the company to move Jews to concentration camps in France during WWII, so the Pols crafted a law that prevented that company from getting the award.

They failed to point out that the Nazi government helped to form Bombardier.

My guess is this was more employees then railroad.  MARC might care enough not to care if the employees did this.  CSX didn't want the job in the first place.
