I have a MTH GG-1 with Protosound 2. It was running just fine; everything worked. Then a caboose fell off the track and it made a spark. The engine stopped running. I attempted to restart it but nothing. So then I turned everything off, changed the fuses, made certain the engine was loaded into the DCS handle, pressed startup but the engine did not start. On the DCS handle it read "maintenance required". My other MTH engines run fine on the same track and I also cleaned (wiped down) the track and the wheels on the engine. Is it possible that the engine needs a battery; although it was running fine previously?

Is this 5V board or the 3V or PS-3?  You may have had a voltage spike damage the board. Or the Track/panto power switch got moved to panto for AC power.  So check that.  Maintenace required is just a timed reminder about engine maintenance.  You can reset the clock via the remote menu for the engine.  Just scroll through the soft key items.  But engine needs to be powered and with good battery for the reset to take.  G
