I just recently bought a Lionel SD-70 ACE C&NW Heritage engine. When I received it I took it out of the box and it appears brand new. I put it on the track powered up the track assigned a new ID and fired it up. All good so far, but as I started to pull it out it wouldn't go. I tried changing direction and same thing. All the lights and bells and horn work as well as crew talk. Just no movement, almost like it is stuck in neutral. Then I took the trucks off and looked for a loose wire, nothing. So I put the trucks back on and it started running ok for a few laps around a small oval then it just stopped. the rail sounds are still working with the lights and horn but no movement. Has anyone else experienced this kind of trouble?

Did you buy the engine new?  What is the product number.  Just want to check if it is an early one with modular boards.

I checked it and it is an old one with modular boards.  After you reprogrammed it with the engine number then set, did you again put in the engine number then press AUX-1 then the diesel code number 2?  That is what is needed to make things happen.

On the older Legacy boards, you may need to reseat the R4LC board.  BTW, your engine is 6-28280.

I bought it used but as usual he said he never ran it. It is a SD-70ACE C&NW Heritage UP#1859 (6-28373). Any ideas?

The box had the 6-28373 on it and it does come up that way when I search for parts on Lionel's website. When I do a search for that model number under the products tab it comes up something different. I will try the same with the model number you gave me. Thank you for all the info you have passed on to me. As a newbie to the hobby  I can use all the info I can get. I did look up that sku you gave me and that one was for the same engine but different road number. My road number is #1859

Any new update in reference to your repair.

I'm having issues with the same type of engine. Curious to how yours is working out.
