todays rookie question.if you program an engine in tmcc, can you also program it to a friends legacy layout?is it just a matter of assigning a new number to the legacy system?

The TMCC ID is unique to the engine.  If you were to take it to a friends house who has Legacy, as long as he doesn't have an engine assigned to the same address then you can just operate it as is.  If he has an engine assigned to that address you will have to give your engine a new ID to avoid the conflict.  There are of course ways around that to but this is the simplest course of action.

thanks for the reply.so basically i can just put in a new engine number.my grandson and i have a HUGE fleet of 3 command engines.i  believe he programmed nw611 as #1.i have a legacy sd40 programmed at home as#1on TMCC and a TMCC sd70 programmed as #2.sorry for asking such questions.so if I run it on his legacy just program my engines 2 and 3?

Yes.  Use the PGM/RUN procedure to change the TMCC IDs, BUT to get the most out of the SD40 on his Legacy system, being Legacy a engine, make sure when you add it to the Cab 2 you push the info button and set the controller up to operate it as Legacy engine and not a TMCC engine and set the type as diesel.  This will not affect your operation at home on TMCC but will give you full Legacy functionality on his layout.  (See the video below)

Personally I would probably have you grandson change the address of the J to something other than 1 just because that is the default address for all new engines.  It might bite you in the butt one day.  Most people pick part of the road number to make it easy.

Here is a video Dave Olson did to enter this info in the Cab 2 after you have assigned the IDs...  Need additional help just let us know.
