Hi I have a mth steam turbine with ps3 that prolly just fine over my lionel track . When it goes over the 022 switches it stops. All my other engines run over these switches just fine. Let me say that this is brand new just out of the box is there something I am doing wrong with this engine.

Most likely it's just the pickup roller spacing. I had a similar problem with a RK Imperial K4 going over back-to-back Ross switches. I fixed the problem by putting a 3rd pickup roller on the tender.
This is going over singlswitches and it's on the turnout before the frog
Make sure both pickup rollers are working.
Put a piece of tape over the center rail. A couple of inches. Put 1 roller on top. Does the train still work? No try the other roller on the tape. If it works on both, not the problem.
Lionel J,
Hate to say this but there are few engines that the old Lionel 022 switches would not accommodate, looks like you just found another one. If you can rework your layout, use a 072 or original 711 your problem will probably disappear. Barry is correct the pick ups are located where there is a lack of metal on the switch, and it
fails to keep the engine electrofied. Problem really goes back to switch design and different engines. Or you could have a faulty pick up, it happens.

Ok tested the engine with electical tape on center rail come to find out the front pickup is not getting power so how do I fix this.
2 choices. Warranty repair. Fix it yourself.
It is nothing more than a electrical connection. Take the shell off and trace the wire back from the roller. Should be a disconnection somewhere.
Also put a little oil on the roller inside (roller and axle) and spin it. This may help before taking the shell off and checking for broken wires.
Well thanks for all the help it looks like I will taking it back since I just got it today
Lionel J,
Smart move if the engine is brand new, when you get the pick up fixed, more than likely the engine will run thru the 022 switch, there are only a few engines the
old 022 Lionel switches will not accommodate, and usually they are Tin Plate with
pick ups far apart.

Took it back today they said they will fix it up and get it back to me tomorrow
Well got it back and it run but still stops after they said they test ran for a few laps but I noticed on my track it would jerk at sections of the track then run fine on the same track next time around and noticed that the front head light is dull not bright at all. Also the outer wheels spark only on the switches then it will run the next lap fine on the same switch. So I took it back to Lhs again and they think there is a short somewhere. What do you all think
Clean all your track.
wellNewell it went back to mth it had some bad wiring and was shorting out
Lionel J,
At least you now know what the problem really is and it will be corrected.
