I was looking on eB and found a wheel cleaner in O-gauge and  I found this

4-X-O-SCALE-ROLLERS-W-WHEEL-CLEANING-ACCESSORIES/303129296221?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

But it has a bad review so I made this:

The idea is to use the test rollers to raise up the engine. then slide this wheel cleaner adjacent to the test rollers, so that the rotating wheel edges engages the GREEN thing which is  an abrasive surface.

the gray support structure would be 3D printed in resin.

A rubberized pad, nylon, foam, or cloth swap out for different wheel types?

A motorized set of rubber rollers for cars? Wire brush wheels vs rollers ? Or wire rub pads?

Lots if ways to approach it and only some tinkering and tests can really tell if it's a good idea.  I've thought about this too, but don't have the resources to pursue it.

Especially would be nice for those engines that can't be run upside-down.

I think a height adjustment to vary contact pressure would be prudent; esp. with abrasives.

Like the idea of pads you can swap out. Maybe if you wanted to get real fancy you could make this low enough to fit into a piece of track and just drive the engine over this to clean the wheels. With a diesel this would work great as one truck could be over this part and the other on the rails to provide power. Then just hold the engine and apply power. I have a home made one with removable pads held on by velcrow. It works great espcially for diesels. I just set it beside my track place the engine on the track and use the alligator clips to attach to the powered track next to it. Havent had a traction tire issue yet. Cleans wheels good. I also cut some felt strips to use for getting the wheels really clean after the green pads as there is still a film on the wheels. I have used goo gone on the felt pads and that worked ok to,but was kinda messy and just using the green pads worked just as good for me anyway.
