What would cause an engine to work perfect in all respects in Command mode, but not work in conventional?  It's an older Lionel GP9 from 1997.  As soon as power is applied with the transformer set to conventional mode the lights come on in the engine but no matter how long I wait it will apparently not recognize that there is no command signal.  I thought it was supposed to wait a second or two while it checked for a command signal and then the light comes on to indicate it is ready in conventional mode. But it just sits there forever - with the lights on no matter what activation button is pressed on the transformer.  It's a 6-18567.

All I ever seem to do is ask for help.  It's getting embarrassing.

Thanks for the update and glad you got it going. The best fixes are the easy ones.

FWIW, most of what I know I learned from other folks on this forum.

There certainly is a wealth of free information here that is second to none. Its just as nice to get a solution from someone, as it is to pass it along to someone else.

Just as a curious FYI, I have a 3rd Rail NYC Mercury K-5 Pacific, with TMCC/RS. This

loco will, indeed, operate only in Command. I was testing something a few years ago,

in conventional for some reason (I hardly ever use conventional), and the loco would,

indeed, not get out of neutral. My Command Base was unplugged, and I'm pretty familiar

with all that stuff.

It works fine in Command, so I'm happy. It is my favorite 3rd Rail loco - robustly

built, and their only die-cast steamer.
