Have the Lionel 6-82982 Christmas express set and the engine works fine on the track, but will not work on rollers or in a cradle. In both cases I have the tender connected. The headlight lights, but no chirping sound. Rollers work fine for everything else and I can always get any other engine to work in the cradle. Not the end of the world, but would like to know if anyone has had the same issue or a possible solution.

Sometimes getting the engines out of NEUTRAL on a test stand is tricky. Once you put power to the test stand, slowly cycle the power to get it out of neutral.
Make sure the center roller is making good contact with the pick up bar, or whatever your roller has.
If this is a TMCC/Legacy engine, is there TMCC power connected close by? I have had to unplug my TMCC/Legacy system even though it was in the other room in order for the engine on my test stand to go into conventional mode.

Thanks, It is a LionChief engine with Bluetooth, I am guessing the neutral thing is not an issue.
Yes it does, just tested a different LionChief plus, no problem. I know it gets power since the headlight lights, but that is it.
Make sure a center roller is under both the pick ups for the tender and one under the pickup under the engine, if the engine is so equipped.

Fixed the issue, I was only putting power to the rollers under the engine, not the one in the tender. I assumed all three were connected, but no. Put power to the roller under the tender and it all works.
