I have been on a track to do a small 2 rail Chessie layout but the more I look at Norm's 3 rail scale Pennsy layout, both the old and the progress on the new layout, its becoming harder to go the 2 rail route! Fantastic modeling, there are not enough words to say how much I love the look. Its so good in pictures that I dont even notice the 3rd rail, which is the whole point IMHO. My Weaver M1a needs one of Norm's weathering jobs. I am happy with its performance, but it looks to fresh from the factory. I was going to see the M1a to a friend, might have to quash that and keep it for myself now. Mike

I too am a big fan of Norm's modelling. It's an inspiration to me and exactly the look and feel I wish to create in my own layout.
Are there photos of this layout online? Any links? I'd like to see it too.
Don,
Here is a link to Norm Charbonneau's blog:

If you also search his name under the membership list, you can find all of his OGR forum posts, some of which have many pictures. Sorry that I don't remember his railroad's name.
He can also be reached by e-mail at norm.charbonneau@gmail.com
Hope this helps.
Chuck
Here is Norm's train Blog.

Yes, his attention to detail is amazing. But it does not stop at just the layout, the room, lighting, workshop, photography, all reflect his tenacity in getting the right look.
Will never forget my visit to his first layout, learned allot.
I still have some of his rolling stock and cars on my layout. The 0-8-0 I bought off him a few years ago.

Thanks guys!
When I first got in to O gauge full time I bought a magazine with Norm's first layout in it and I literally wore out the magazine looking at it. I think he sets the standard for the hobby. Others are very good and close but Norm's stands tall.
The thing that I always notice with Norm's modeling is how well everything flows together or blends if you will. He really has an eye for capturing a overall "look".
His driving skills could be better. lol
Looks like he hasn't updated his blog in a couple of years. Has he posted any updates on his new layout elsewhere?
Yes. This thread is more up to date.
I like the the Transformer load after the Engine.
Good LUCK, John
I have on a DVD Norm explaining in simple words his weathering techniques and other modeling details of his old layout. In this video you will learn that 2- or 3-rail is really a secondary issue.
Norm sets the Standard for realism in 3 rail O gauge with scratch built and weathered buildings, weathered locomotives, weathered rolling stock and capturing the classic railroad era. I wish he would do a DVD or tutorial on weathering. I know their is a short clip of his weathering technique in one of TM videos, but I would like to see a more detailed how to.
