Hey Gang,

Long story short: My KW fried my AtlasO GP-35 TAS mobo like bacon. I tried to replace the parts, but with no success. I will be purchasing the ERR Cruise Commander and Railsounds kit. My question is, which ERR sound set do you think would be the closest for a GP-35? I was thinking that the GP-7/9 would be close enough.

ERR Railsounds Kits

As it's late on a Saturday night, so I thought I would start here and give them a call on Monday. Thanks for any thoughts.

If you want basic command functionality with no sound, you can go with several options from ERR.  For DC locomotives, there is the DC Commander and the MiniCommander 2.  For AC locomotives, they have the AC Commander.  If you'd like cruise capability for a DC locomotive, there is the Cruise Commander.

The sound option is a separate package called the Railsounds Commander.

Did you look at the Electric Rail Road site to see the available products?

I received the ElectricRR Railsounds and Cruise commander yesterday and finished the install today. I opted for the GP 7/9 sound chip. Install of the railsounds was a breeze comapred to the cruise commander. Kudos to the ElectricRR for quick service and quality product.

I can detect a low pitch static sound as best as I can describe. This static was also detected on the TAS board. I attached both the original speaker and the speaker included in the ERR kit with no change in results. I don't know if this is a grounding problem or if this is normal. I am going to purchase a high quality speaker after doing some research online. That should fix my problem!

You might want to check the space available for the RailSounds Commander, it requires about 2" and then you need to find a place for the speaker.  You can download the manual from ERR, RailSounds Commander Installation Guide.  This will give you an idea of what you'll have to deal with.  The actual installation is dirt simple if you don't run into a space issue.

Actually, the new speaker probably won't fix the static, that's a "feature" of many RS4 installation.

Thanks, this was taken care of more than a year ago with a PSX-AC circuit breaker. Also, the KW has been relegated to pre and post war runners only.

John,

Thanks for confirming my suspicion that the RailSounds design was faulty.

Well, let's just say the design is not "optimal".   I always wondered why many of the RS4 locomotives have the hash in the background, especially when the audio is low.

Thanks Bill!  I wasn't sure how/if the TMCC side of the electronics was split between the ERR CC, the ERR RS4, or yet another board I would need.

I have the MRC AC Sounder installed now, but after hearing the sounds of my 3rd Rail E7 I thought I'd inquire about upgrading the WBB E7.
