So I put an ERR Cruise Commander into an MTH Sd40 with dual can motors and I think I wired everything the right way.  But when I turn the wheel just a touch the engine jets off at full speed!  I can immediately turn the wheel back down and bring it to a stop.  But it seems to be either full speed or stop in both directions.

Any ideas guys?

I tried setting Feature Code 5 and 6 and doesn't help.

If I'm reading right all I have to do is put the engine into program mode, then power on track.  Press AUX1, then press 5, and then turn off track power and put the engine back into run mode to change to Feature Code right?

I left the speed steps and motor size alone.

Ok.  I switched in another R4LC from another engine and it runs perfect!

There is no smoke unit or lights hooked up to the feature port of the board.

Since a different R4LC works, do you think it's the board that is bad or the programming I did?

I did the ENG ## SET, before doing the feature set yes.  Do you have to do that every time or just once to set the ENG #?

An unprogrammed Cruise Commander will indeed take off pretty quickly when you apply power and crack the throttle, I don't see any significant ramp-up.  That also happens with no serial data input.

Who said unprogrammed?  I said a wrong code number.  The codes control how the output signals function, smoke or cablight, beacon, directional lighting, etc...  G

I have the same situation.  Installed CC in a older Lionel Frisco 2-8-2 today.  Set it on the track applied power and it took off down the track.  Would not response to TMCC controller only halt.  Took out the R4LC and install one from a Aero Train I converted at Christmas and it response like it suppose to.  Tried the R4LC from the Frisco in the Aero Train and it takes off down the tracks.  I take it as a bad R4LC.  Contacted ERR today and waiting to hear from them.
