I would appreciate any advise and comments on upgrading a pre- Bachmann, Williams semi-scale Hudson with cruise control, sounds, & smoke using Electric RR Co. Products. Since I bought into the Lionel Legacy system my conventional loco's seldom get used. Recently I considered buying a LionChief Plus Hudson but suspect that I would somewhat be unimpressed with the chuffing sounds seeing I'm used to Legacy system. I know the Lionchief plus system has many good points but this old Williams loco has some sentimental value and I wonder if I would be happy with an upgrade?

Thanks for any advise.

Run, don't walk to your nearest ERR dealer and get started converting your roundhouse queens.  I have installed Cruise Commanders in three old favorites so far and will do a few more soon. The latest sound files are very good. Installation is easy for anyone who can follow instructions and with very basic soldering skill.  If you want to keep it on the economical side, forget about remote couplers (although this too is fairly simple to add) or smoke on diesels (pretend that your shop forces have the ability to run fairly smoke-free maintenance). And then Enjoy, Enjoy!
