I don't know if its actually RS5 but the new boards do have intelligible crew talk. Its now a single board with much smaller footprint. They don't seem to have the volume as the older boards though, even with the volume pot all the way up.

I upgraded my 18007 Daylight to Daylight sounds, and its not that loud. its the 4.0 version...Maybe its because its a plastic tender shell and not diecast?
RS4 and 5 both use the same audio power board so volume should be similar. The ERR kit comes with a Baby Fatboy which I have used on other projects with he old boards. Using the same speaker and supplied baffle, RS4 sounds louder to me than the new boards does.

I installed an Atlantic Sound Commander with an RS 4 with their speaker in a die cast tender and the volume is fairly hefty. Plenty for my needs anyway.
Does ERR's new sound board have 8 diesel engine RPM steps?

I just tried to increase rpm sound from the lowest and it took 3 arrow ups from the remote which was all the way up. The same thing with the RS 4 board works the same way. I guess I would call it four rpm levels.
The volume seems fine with the baby Fatboy...it comes out the windows on a Williams GP9.
The new RailSounds Commander from ERR is indeed based on the RS5 sound amplifier and has much better sound than the previous RS Commander. In addition, it's a much more compact one board solution instead of the two board sandwich.
The size of the audio board is nice. It makes for a easy installation. The audio is very clear. But, the volume simply does not overcome the wheel/gear noise of the engine/engines. The only word for the volume level is "WHIMPY".
Maybe, I'm missing something in the install? Overall is it a good product? YES
Will I be ordering more? Yes, It's the only game in town (SIZE CLASS).

So you did turn up that little volume pot. I knew you did, but mine came at half position and at first I thought wimpy until I turned it up all the way.
All, the way up....still not like any of my rs4 engines. I called ERR. They mentioned the pot being moved to max position. The ge the new boarecausentlemen also statedthey can be turned to max board wouldn't distort. Did they limit the output?
If the sounds are not as loud, maybe they will make an amplifier for it. I dont like the baby fat boy speakers, I have a few of the Lionel Standard Size Fat boys I bought with Baffles. I am going to be installing these instead of the baby fats when i do my upgrades....
The fatboys and baby fatboys are interchangable. I had to use the baby fatboy because limited space in a railking engine. Had I more room I would have used a larger speaker.
The volume still sounds whimpy even for the small speaker.
