For quite a few years, I have had an MTH DCS remote that has not been working right.  When turning the thumbwheel to a slower speed, it would regularly skip speed steps or go into "select" mode and I would have to press Engine to continue the speed reduction process, usually many times.  Because of this, I bought a spare but haven't used it much.  After 12 years of using the remote, it fell off of my table to the concrete basement floor.  The thumbwheel jammed into the remote and I thought that was it, especially with the thumbwheel hard to find.  I couldn't budge it, even with a small pick.  I loosened the sides of the case and finally got the thumbwheel to pop out.  To my surprise, it now works like new again.  Who would guess that dropping a remote would end up fixing it.
