i just recently received 2 Lionel SD38 that I had to preorder. The road name I ordered was the DMIR, these engine should be a dark burgundy for the base color. The engines came a really light burgundy almost more red. I have other engine from Mth and atlas with great colors. It's just madding that Lionel has no quality control I guess one easy search online they could see the colors are wrong. Just wondering if anyone has ever run into these and what they did

I don't have this loco but the blue on the CSX Genset by MTH was the biggest blunder I have seen...
Thats horrible! I'd send it back.
At the very least, any reputable dealer should give you credit towards another purchase.
Just another reason NOT to preorder.
I have recently bought 3 up engines two lionel and one mth. The mth gp35 and the lionel gp30 are new. The lionel sd is used it was sold a few years back with tmcc odysse. All three engines have a different shade of up gray. All look nice though. Nothing as bad as yours at least.
That color is way off. Not just the red, but that shade of yellow is wrong as well (too light). I'm surprised they didn't catch it in pre-production. I preordered the MTH version, if it had showed up looking like that they would have gotten it back. I am not a rivet counter, some small errors I can live with, but that just looks horrible. As much as Lionel charges for their engines you would think they could at least get the paint color close to right.
