I am running a 7 car; Brass trim STD BC on the Christmas Platform this year.

400E PS-1, 200/500 series B.C. box car, OLBERS Baggage car, TUTTLE, FAYE, WESTPHAL, HALLEY coaches and a TEMPEL Observation car but no BARNARD. So I go looking for the BARNARD in brass and I don’t have one. I have two in Nickel trim but none In Brass. Come to think of it I don’t think I have ever seen one in brass.

Did MTH/ Lionel make a brass trimmed BARNARD?

Have I named all the BC standard gauge cars or am I missing some?

Not sure on the answer but I was wondering the same thing. I have the recent release of the brass version and wanted to snag a Bernard car in Brass. They only, in that catalog offered it in nickel. But has it been done in brass ever?

Thanks for the compliment on the Pres set I photographed last night. Tinplate is hard to photograph. I was amazed it came out well.

Tried there product locator and could not find one. I could not find a Tuttle in nickel trim.

I think the Tuttle was introduced with the LCT Brass trim Blue Comet as a add on car along with the Olbers. The Nickel trim LCT Blue Comet offered the Barnard along with the Olbers.

They will eventually make both cars. It is odd to make a 6 car BC set in Brass or Nickel and not have all the cars the same when they could make a 7 car set for both by changing the trim.

Yes the Nickel BARNARD car I have from the classic MTH /Lionel 1990 period is more blue than the modern MTH BC brass sets from, we'll say,  the 2000+ era. The newer BARNARD car is like the one you posted above. The picture you show above is a closer color to the 2000+ brass sets.  This is all based on my eyeballing the colors. My wife might say otherwise. I look at a color and it's ,light purple or dark purple and she looks at the same color and says it's plum or Baroness Puess. (yes that is a color, I may not have spelled it correctly but it's a color)

The sets I have from the thirties are also diffrent colors than the 1990's and 2000's colors, but then again they are 75+ years old. Incidentally the original prewar 390 engined set and the 400e sets I have are different colors also, or at least in my case.

Does anybody know how many different variation/colors there might be aside from paint fade?

Bluecometk -  I can't speak for the originals, but for the modern era there are two distinct colors.  I own the brass with red drivers model and the color is more teal than blue.  When I saw the nickel set with black drivers at York the blue is certainly brighter, or "more" blue.  I only point this out because when I bought my 400, I had to search for a set of matching cars from an earlier run.  This was in 2007 and MTH released the engine without the cars at that point.  I originally wanted the nickel cars but had to find the brass since the color was different.  As it turns out, the cars are from 2002, the engine from 2007 and the Olbers car from 2005, and all the colors match perfectly with all brass trim.  I do not believe the Barnard car has been made with brass yet, however the image posted above looks very much like the teal color of the brass models.  You really need to see them in person.   Sounds like you have a great collection of Comets, can you post some photos?

Added a photo of Brass trimmed BC from LCT. The flash is horrible.

The 2 cars you have are a Lionel Classic and LCT from 2012 cat.

Wonder if the Lionel Classic in Nickel is a different color blue than the LCT in Nickel.

Originals came in 3 distinct colors according to a post made by Rob English on a different thread.

It is possible all 3 are correct to different periods of Blue Comet production. Collectors will be glad to hear the Nickel LCT is different in color to the Lionel Classic. The Lionel Classic is priced at around a grand in the aftermarket.

Thank you gentlemen, I think we have gotten a little closer to the bottom of the color issues we hear about.

I was Starting to think I was going nuts about the brass trimmed BARNARD car. I concur with both of your statements of MTH/Lionel colors from what I have and what i have seen in pictures, shows and collections.

I haven’t actually had the prewar originals out of the boxes in at least 9 years. I have been using the MTH sets on my Christmas platform instead. I know that’s sad but its life at this time.

Again thank you for your time and efforts we have a great forum here.
