Hello, I bought a starter pack of this from Mega-Steam at York, and it looks like a great product (still using up my old stuff before trying it). It kinda has me confused though, as I am used to greasing the gears, and oiling everything else (one oil and one grease). Now, this setup has:

Medium oil for wheels/rollers/other things

Heavy oil for bearings and running gear

Gear oil for gears and sliding parts

Grease for ?

The only thing that I could think that the grease if for is to fill gearboxes? But wouldn't that mix with the oil?

I have been purchasing and using their product exclusively for some years now. I use his "grease" for the side rod bearings on steam locomotives, as it doesn't get "thrown off". However, I still use only Red-N-Tacky in & on the gears of what few diesel models I have.

I use grease for external gear trains like the ones on diesel power trucks and exposed worm gears on steamers. Enclosed worm drives should always be packed with grease, not oil. Normally the only reason to repack them would be if they are dry or dirty, in which case you would clean them up and put in fresh grease. I find very little use for heavy oil except on tinplate.

I've never used the Excelle products but knowing the guy who runs Mega-Steam, he's got high standards so the odds are it's good stuff.

That's the reason I bought it rather than getting more labelle.

I'd be interested in the results received from the Excelle product line. Surely someone can say more than the usual one or two words. What's going on? I've been using R &T #2 and Lucas' Gun Oil for more than 20 yrs. Since I'm no longer able to run trains, I'm looking for something that will protect my,"shelf queens"for those extended periods of sitting there. Thank you!

God Bless,

Hi Michael,

We have had so many requests for lubricants over the last few years that we finally are very proud to offer the Excelle line. Since we specialize in smoke fluid, we thought we might expand and take care of things on the other end of the locomotives. Lol!

Excelle Lubricants are produced right here in the USA and are extremely high quality.

They are all plastic compatible, all conductive, and all synthetic. They will not dry out over time and in our testing we found them to be the very best lubricants for our trains...that do get lots of run time.

The Gear Oil is made for the exposed gears like on the sides of diesel trucks and anywhere gears are exposed. It can also be used on side rods of steam engines. It will not fly off...it stays put. That makes it superior.

The Grease can be used anywhere you would use white grease and is designed to be used in enclosed gear boxes and the little ports on the bottom of engines that says "Grease". The grease will not dry out or crack since it is synthetic so it works very well and is especially useful in prolonging life for the "shelf queens" that "Happy Pappy" mentioned.

Hope this information is helpful.
