Experience with adding engineer figures to engines?

Weaver E8, required a bulkhead and small bench seat. 

Figures are part of the Atlas SW switchers.   Atlas supplied the figures pictured. 

I've added figures to a ton of stuff.  I usually shop around and find cheap engineer figures at shows or at York.  As far as the seats, they're easy to fabricate, even a simple block of wood or Styrene will do as a seat.  Paint the seat to your taste and seat your engineer and fireman.

MTH and Arttista are close in street price, about 6 bucks each. MTH are plastic and will a bit easier to trim which I expect you will have to do to get them in Williams steam. The MTH "seat" is just a brick, no back so as John points out any bit of plastic or wood will do to keep them propped up.

Agreed.  I just cast around the net and find engineer/fireman figures that I like (not enough train shows in my area).  The seats are simplicity itself -- as Gunrunner says, a little styrene or even wood can become a seat in short order.

For diesels, I agree with Mike_CT that you might need a bulkhead, depending on the locomotive.

For steam engines I bought from Artista ”1415 Fireman and Engineer seats” and used their figures. Worth it IMO  

For diesels I used plastic figures. Easier to bend or cut into place.  Seats might not matter  

Great photos. Thanks. I think I'll buy a couple of the Artista and get my youngest to paint them. She needs a winter project.

I think if my locomotive shook like that, I'd have trouble keeping it on the tracks!
