Cleaned up my aluminum cars with a wadding pad. Amazed at how much of the tarnish came off. I am satisfied with their appearance the fact that they almost 60 yrs. old. Should I spray them with a top coat or leave well enough alone.
They will likely last years without a coating but there are specific products designed to prevent corrosion. This will actually protect against salt spray. Not paint. Don't spray it on the car, rather a soft rag and apply a thin coat.
It is called eagle one never dull wadding polish. Cleans and polishes all metals. It took off a tremendous amount of black which I assume was years of dirt.
My guess is, He used something like "Neverdull", or something of that nature.
If your not going to handle them alot, no need to clearcoat. If your going to be touching them a bunch, then, by all means clearcoat. Then add your decals.
Norton, I wondered about that. Even after I was pleased with their appearance I continued to get black on the pad. But the product still made a tremendous difference. Tstark
I polish lots of aluminum trim on classic cars. Due to the nature of aluminum and aluminum polish. Even though the aluminum is clean the polish will always turn black no matter what. Its the nature of the beast.
