Molex makes thousands of connectors, I personally have half a dozen Molex extraction tools, all for different connector families. What specific connector are we talking about?
Hi John
Thanks for the quick reply. I did not want to hi jack this thread https://ogrforum.com/t...21#72101420823382221. So I thought I would ask my question here. I planning on upgrading some Lionel TMCC engines that I have to ERR. I saw that you used a/the Molex extraction tools and avoided solder and keep the upgrade nice and neat. I would like to know which Molex extraction tools you would use on those upgrades.
I wonder if you really want a tool for the JST connectors. In that case all you have to do is lift the flat rectangular tab holding the pin in which is done from the outside. Take a good look at the connectors you think you want to modify or post a picture here with dimensions (measures distance between pins).
This thread might be informative also...
The most common Molex connector used by Lionel and ERR is the 3mm Micro Fit. Both 2 and 4 pin versions are used.
This is the tool that Molex offers.
I prefer the round tool that depresses both barbs at the same time.
Pete
Dear All
Thanks for the replies.
Dear Peter
Can you provide more information about the white and red hand that "round tool that depresses both barbs at the same time".
Kris, I will have to check tomorrow. I have a few of these in different diameters so I not sure of the exact part number for the one that fits the Micro Fits.
Pete
I tried the red/white one for DB connectors, it's too large. I think the green/white one is smaller, and may fit, I can't find mine now. I never thought of using those for the Molex connectors.
Dear Gentlemen
I look forwarder to your reply. I had to repair my refrigerator once and they used Molex connectors and what a pain it was to get the pins out of the plug. I wish I knew they had a tool for easy removal of the Molex pins.
The larger Molex connectors use a different style tool, I have three different Molex tools for that kind of connector in different sizes. All look pretty much like this one. The outside sleeve is spring loaded and there is a pin inside that pushes the pin out of the housing.
Kris, my mistake. The red/white style tool pictured above I use for Mini Fits which is the next size larger Molex from Micro Fits. The DB smaller DB connector tool I have is white and teal. Same style as the one above but half the diameter.
Pete
Pete, that's the one I can't find, I have to hunt that down as it would be good for those.
Hi Pete and John
I looked around the web and found these two would they work? See below links for your easy reference.

If they do not can you please provide me with the correct tool to purchase and an internet link so I can purchase them.
Thank you in advance.
Kris, They both may work. The second link is of a larger tool (red/white) but could be modified to work as I did on the one below. The white/teal is actually a smaller diameter with the bottom of the "U" ground off which leaves the two prongs shown in the pic. The second one is homemade using .010" beryllium copper (spring temper) and a piece of copper clad circuit board. Both work.
The advantage of my tools vs the Molex tools is both barbs get depressed at the same time vs one side at a time.
Keep in mind this is not used very often unless you plan to convert many Odyssey diesels to an ERR Cruise M.
Pete
Hi Pete
Thanks for the information. I will not be doing many conversion but I like to have the right tool for the right job. For $9.50 plus shipping I think it is worth every penny.

I would first thank everyone for replying with their ideas suggestion and comments. For the benefit of those you have been following and not adding to the subject I did order the extract from Digikey, here are the links:

https://www.digikey.com/produc...067-2/A1010-ND/15557
I need other parts so it made sense to piggyback off my Digikey order and add the extractors.
