My latest re-paint project. Came out ok. I am somewhat limited, by what I can mask, and decals I can make. I can't cut out small stuff, ie: decals on white backing, so I have to get a little creative. This was a CAT Railking with locosounds. I wanted this for a modified D-27 layout I'm building. For an entry level engine this is the best engine I have owned. It's nice and heavy, it's geared low and will pull a house, and with the speed control it's perfect for the D-27 disappearing train layout. I already had one, my first MTH engine, but (no offense to F40PH lovers) I thought it was the ugliest engine I'd ever seen, so I re bodied it with a Railking SD45 shell from the bay. I like this well enough I want to find another CAT or McDonalds F40PH to paint the same for a second unit. I will reverse it, so it will start in reverse and back it up to this one.
So here it is. It's a little early for this kind of stuff, but it's only 231 days till Christmas........
I also put on a plow from another Railking GP9 I got and never installed. Now I need to find the part number for the plow, I need about 6 more. Turns out all the engines (Railking) that I have are drilled the same for the plow. And in the case of the F40PH, I think it makes this engine look so much better, that and loosing the CAT paint scheme. I also ordered a MTH figure set and will put Santa and an elf in the cab.
