F7 A/B units legacy function question

I just got my first F7 B legacy. I do NOT have A units yet. It was a good deal and I plan to get the A's. This is the unit

Its a brand new unit but I am always weary to test things immediately. The unit will move and power up in conventional. There is no rail sounds or anything, no bell, horn, although it's supposed to have them.

I cannot connect via Bluetooth to the app nor the lion chief remote. The manual says the B units cannot be run independently from the A units via Bluetooth. Should I be able to without the A unit?

So my question is: if it cannot run independently via Bluetooth then what is the function for? Am I correct to assume that you connect to the A units and the A unit talks to the B unit via Bluetooth?

Well, I also do not yet have a Base 3 yet. I've been running my few legacy Locos via Bluetooth/Lion chief remote. Haven't built my layout out so I haven't invested in the Base 2/3 yet. Lionel's description is confusing as it's says it has rail sounds system etc. I obviously don't see a speaker in the under carriage.

I have the Norfolk southern f units from same catalog,  two powered a units, 1 with sound, powered sound less b unit,  super bass b unit with sound & no motors. A few catalogs prior There was power B. units with sound

Ah, copy. Starting to make sense. I think Lionel uses the same product description for the A/B's across the board hence my confusion. Seems mine is powered, smoke,no sound. The super bass would be sound and non powered. Thank you
