Hi All,

I'm trying to get a better understanding of the need of a lighting circuit with the choke and the DCS interference. My curiosity stems from the factory not using choke. Is it because it’s not needed with glass bulbs but when ya swap them for LED’s DCS interference is created?

There's no circuitry with bulbs only that will interfere with DCS. It's a purely resistive load.

With any kind of circuitry using voltage regulators, IC's, switching regulators, etc. though, there is a chance of interference with the DCS signal, thus the 22uH choke. That assures no interference. So for the 50 cents or so of a choke, why not include it? This really only applies to any kind of circuit that will be mounted in anything rolling on the tracks. For trackside signals,, building lighting, operating accessories etc., there is no need. Just IMO.
