I sense a future Darwin award here.
Unbelievable! Had I not just seen it with my own eyes. What ever happened to common sense?
Just when you think people can’t possibly get more stupid...
You just know they’re going to sue the railroad over this. People like that always do.
I'm surprised that the engineer didn't blow the horn before hitting them, nor stopped the train afterwards.
And yes, these people sitting on the tracks are stupid idiots!
Stuart
With pedestrians in the immediate vicinity of the tracks, the crew should have for sure been ringing the bell, no question.
From the sounds, it appears to be a some kind of public event going on directly behind the person with the camera.
Yep!!! Was that in this country? Sarandi - PR? I guess blowing the horn AFTER he hit them is better than nothing. I guess he didn't stop either. Their word against his.
Rick
I would fire that engineer in a heartbeat!
Even though the people on the tracks were unbelievably stupid to do what they did, he made no attempt to warn the people on the tracks BEFORE he hit them! No bell, no horn - NOTHING. What was HE thinking?
And don't get me started on the "vertical video" problem. Why people shoot video while holding their phones VERTICALLY is beyond me. More stupidity.

Anyone who hates them must watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt9zSfinwFA

Sarandi's in Brazil.

Amazing, sitting on the tracks was dumb enough, apparently the folks all standing around are even substantially more dumb not having the presence of mind to warn them of the oncoming train.
At the very least, the idiot doing the filming could have warned them!
Icing on the cake, the guy in the black T shirt and the girl on the ground with her boyfriend, husband whatever that took the hit (and their "oops baby") continue to hold onto their beer the whole time!!!
I really thought it was going to end much worse, maybe it did as you can finally see the guy realize how badly he was hurt near the end.
"My kid just went flying, my boyfriends back just got gored by the locomotive pilot, but theres nowhere for me to set my beer down in the grass without it spilling."
I'm speechless!
Just took a good look at the markings on the EMDs and the types of boxcars.
Clearly not in the US.
I think it is a Brazilian railroad, They play chicken a lot down there and ride on the top of cars on electrified railroads. I have no idea what those meatheads where doing with the kid.I see stuff like that I thank God we live in the USA.
So, in the US, you'd demand bell ringing and expect a lot of horn blowing.
Clearly, this didn't happen in this country, so I'm left to wonder what the rules are in that country.
Either way, they're Eeeeeediots!
Here I fixed it for you. "Twenty first century South America.....You can smell the stupid !"
Some railroads down there run 2 gauges and sometime combine the two gauges in one roadbed, kind of like an offset 3rail.

Matt I found the cabeese, I texted a photo to you.

>>I believe this is a narrow gauge railroad too.
Isn't Brazil BROAD gauge ? (Six foot or so)

When EMD produced those big SD45 units for Brazil, or some country down there, they had 4-axle narrow gauge trucks in order to have enough traction motors.
BEEEEUTIFUULLL!!!

I agree with Rich, the vertical video issue is much more important than the idiots on the train tracks
Pretty obvious they were intending to get hit for the video. I don't think they had any idea they could have just as easily been knocked under the wheels, and things wouldn't have turned out well. I can see guys in their early 20s doing a stunt like that (especially after drinking beer,) but to include a small child is simply inexcusable.
Kent in SD
An angle must have been there for the adult & child, they are lucky they where not dragged under
