Is there a permanent fix to keep the lanterns from coming off?

I have lost most of mine...
Well, I can share what we (LHS) did to keep them in place on our 4X8 layout...Figure 8 within an oval, four inter-wired switches that provide automatic route changing...lots of running daily, 7 days/week.
We applied a couple of drops of tacky glue to the mating surface of the lantern. Only one lantern popped off....several months later...but was quickly re-tacked. It certainly works well for us. The drops of tacky glue are not so permanent that, should the switch need service, the lanterns can be gently pried off without damage.
I'm sure others have similar ideas.

dkdkrd,
Good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I have been taking them all off and putting them in a baggy so they don't get lost.

I like the tacky glue idea. I also ordered spares from Lionel just in case a year or two ago.
I am just running my switches on track power (18 VAC) and except for the odd one coming off, they seem to work just fine as is.

Lionel does indeed sell replacement lantern for fastback switches as I bought a few last year as the cats seem to think that they're a play toy.
They weren't too pricey from what I recall.

Maybe a little rubber cement coating the bottom edge.
