Hey folks, New member, 1st post.
I built a small layout for my sons.
Could anyone tell me the absolute minimum distance between center rails if I want a spur parallel to a straight track using a Fastrack O72 switch as a turnout, and whatever curve pieces to achieve the minimum distance between tracks? I only have 4 inches to play with between center tracks. Is that possible?
I popped by the local store to try it out, but they were out of O72 curves.

With a FasTrack O72 switch and an 18" radius half-curve, you can get a parallel spur on 4" track centers. I recommend the free version of AnyRail so you can draw up your own track plan details.

I'm assuming an 18r curve is the same as an O36 curve? Pardon my ignorance, I'm pretty new to this stuff, unfamiliar with much of the terminology.

Yes, for some reason FasTrack uses radius numbers instead of diameter like most of the other O-gauge track sytems. I use old conventional track myself.
If you have a loco or cars that require a larger turn radius, say 30r or 36r, will they be able to negotiate that section? I'm wondering if it could work since it's short.
