I'm wondering which is better for an 036 FastTrack switch. I have to put in several and they come with a jumper. I have always used a power wire. which is better? thanks
I run my 20 switches on 14 volts from a separate transformer, with 19 volts on the track for DCS. They also work fine on track power, but the lanterns go on and off if running conventional. They are virtually trouble free either way.
It makes a lot of sense to power with a separate supply if you are running conventional. I run Legacy and DCS so I don't use a separate supply since the tracks are always at 18v.
If you run DCS and want to power the Fastrack switches from track power, I suggest replacing the jumper with a 22uh choke to prevent the switch electronics from affecting the DCS signal.
