My thread on the MTH BR-44 brought up a discussion of whistle sounds.  Frankly, it matters not at all to me if the whistle on a model loco is true to the prototype or not, but I like a good whistle sound.  Below are short videos of two I really like, both from the MTH Euro series.  I'd love to see/hear files of other model locos folks particularly like.

This is one of my favorite locos, the French 241.A "Chapelon."  It's whistle is spectacular, the best I have, and this video does not really do justice to it.  This loco is a jewel to look at, but sometimes I run it just to hear the whistle . . .

This is the new MTH BR-44.  European, but far different.  Still really cool.  Another of my favorites.

The "Chapelon" whistle is what I remember as a boy growing up. We were there the day the Wall came down and travelled to our town were I was born. They were moving Russian freight cars out on the tracks above the hill from were we lived, and using all available engines, including steam. For 24/7 we could hear that shrill whistle constantly as trains were made up and heading East with men and equipment. Its a shrill you never forget.

Well here is our favorite out of all the ones we have that whistle.  Although truthfully I like the GG-1 horn the best... but that is a horn and not a whistle.

This was a RailKing Loco Sound engine that I upgraded to PS2.  My son and I must have downloaded a dozen whistle sounds before we picked one we liked.  I can't remember what sound set this was or if it is even scale to this engine.  It just sounded nice, so we kept it.
