Emperor of the north ...by far the best rr movie to date.... all others are a distant 2nd place compared to this gem.
My absolute least favorite....... silver streak
From Russia with Love and Breakheart Pass- this is getting tougher.
Thanks for listings. I'm preparing the marquee lettering for the PALACE THEATRE model building, and a suggested title will be "put in lights" as text of what's now playing at the movie house: MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS.
Mike

Theme song from The Bridge on the River Kwai movie - Colonel Bogey March
Gary
The Train (of course)
Emperor of the North
The Narrow Margin (almost all scenes are on a train)
Scotie
Paigetrain;
My top three would be:
And for honorable mention, I recently watched the entire series of Poirot mysteries that ran on PBS. A lot of them had scenes with some beautifully restored British steamers running though the countryside, but, surprisingly, Murder on thr Orient Express was somewhat disappointing (though the coach interiors were quite good).
I don't watch enough movies to choose three, so my top pick is Unstoppable, which I've watched three times, so that sort of counts. :-)
Last night I watched Bull Dog Drummond's Peril from 1938 that had a hard to see night steam train-car case, contrasted with some very nice detailed interior train shots. I think the trains were British; the action moves between England and Switzerland and can be hard to follow.
Tomlinson Run Railroad
The BIG Little Railroad
The original Taking of Pelham 1-2-3
GG1 cab rides:

1. The Train
2. Emperor of the North
3. Daylight Express (not a theatrical release, but one of the best rail fan videos)
Danger Lights
Broadway Limited
Von Ryan's Express
forgot to add Holiday Affair (the original) Robert Mitchum and Janel Leigh
Polar Express
The Great Locomotive Chase (Fess Parker!)
Mine would be ; murder on the trans siberian express, emperor of the north , the general. Looks like I got more to watch
The Train
Emperor of the North
Murder on the Orient Express / It happened to Jane
The Titfield Thunderbolt
Mark
North by Northwest
La Roue (France, 1922)
Four's a Crowd (if allowing the category to include model trains)
Honorable mention to original of The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. Opening music hooked me.
David
The General - Buster Keaton
The Great Locomotive Chase - Disney
The Station Agent
One more I think. The subway sequences in French Connection are really great. I've already changed the numberboards on my MTH R17s to match the cars on the Grand Central shuttle and my R42s to match the cars on that unforgettable el chase through Brooklyn.
My favorites are Emperor of the North, Night Passage and Breakheart Pass. They just edge out Polar Express (which remains my favorite Christmas movie).
I also want to add Rocky Mountain Express as an honorable mention - although it is now available on Blu Ray, it is something special to see in IMAX. Steam in the Rockies!
Andy
Top three only? Okay, in order:
Mustang-
Yeah, I like The Great Locomotive Chase too!
The Grey Fox...Richard Farnsworth
Let's see...

Remember when "Wide World of Disney" would play this on TV? You'd see it, what, every 3-5 years on TV? My parents knew that if this or "Emperor of the North" came on TV that we were to drop our plans that night if we had any. God love 'em, this wasn't a case of the kid mandating anything to the parents. Instead, it was a parental acknowledgement of how rare these movies ever came on TV in that pre-home-video era. I sure didn't get my way disproportionately growing up, but my parents always had an odd way of knowing what was truly important to me.
Growing up, though, my (living in the Deep South) family always got a little steamed at how all of Disney's civil war themed movies were pro-Union. In the South, most folks back then viewed the whole Andrews Raid right up there with Skorzeny's men dressing as GI's during the Battle of the Bulge in regard to it being a cowardly act.
Didn't stop anyone from appreciating how cool the movie was, though!
But now, I have all my top three RR movies (and most of the other good movies with trains) on DVD. I sure don't miss the days where years would go by between opportunities to see your favorite film.
Polar Express
Silver Streak
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
