Paigetrain;

My top three would be:

  1. The Train
  2. Tough Guys (though it is a bit hard to watch the Daylight demolished)
  3. People Will Talk (beep... beep ... beep!!!)

And for honorable mention, I recently watched the entire series of Poirot mysteries that ran on PBS. A lot of them had scenes with some beautifully restored British steamers running though the countryside, but, surprisingly, Murder on thr Orient Express was somewhat disappointing (though the coach interiors were quite good).

I don't watch enough movies to choose three, so my top pick is Unstoppable, which I've watched three times, so that sort of counts.  :-)

Last night I watched Bull Dog Drummond's Peril from 1938 that had a hard to see night steam train-car case, contrasted with some very nice detailed interior train shots.  I think the trains were British; the action moves between England and Switzerland and can be hard to follow.

Yeah, I like The Great Locomotive Chase too!

Remember when "Wide World of Disney" would play this on TV? You'd see it, what, every 3-5 years on TV? My parents knew that if this or "Emperor of the North" came on TV that we were to drop our plans that night if we had any. God love 'em, this wasn't a case of the kid mandating anything to the parents. Instead, it was a parental acknowledgement of how rare these movies ever came on TV in that pre-home-video era. I sure didn't get my way disproportionately growing up, but my parents always had an odd way of knowing what was truly important to me.

Growing up, though, my (living in the Deep South) family always got a little steamed at how all of Disney's civil war themed movies were pro-Union. In the South, most folks back then viewed the whole Andrews Raid right up there with Skorzeny's men dressing as GI's during the Battle of the Bulge in regard to it being a cowardly act.

Didn't stop anyone from appreciating how cool the movie was, though!

But now, I have all my top three RR movies (and most of the other good movies with trains) on DVD. I sure don't miss the days where years would go by between opportunities to see your favorite film.
