As some of you may have seen, I've been looking for a Big Boy #4011 for a number of months. I was getting a bit frustrated when a friend of mine made an interesting suggestion, the feasibility of which I'd love to explore.

The friend suggested trying to find a Big Boy 4006 (6-11149) and modifying it to become a #4011, steam whistle and all. Has anyone on herd ever tried something like this? Obviously the safest way would be to swap circuit cards and then worry about the additional fan, but having not seen the interiors of either, I dont know if this is possible.

IMO,If it were me I'd just get the 4006 and do without. The reliability Lionels smoke units has been questionable, modifying to add/accomodate the complex dual smoke unit  and electronics needed for the Lionmaster is just asking for trouble.

If I remember correctly the  whistle effect on these lionmaster bigboys was not quite as good as other locos where the whistle is located in a different part of the boiler.

The chuff has a tendency to sneak out of the whistle as well, causing a "chuffing whistle steam" when the whistle isn't blown.
