I finally had time to connect my TIU to my Win 8 pc with the USB drivers, Downloader 2.30.  It allowed me to update the TIU to 4.3 successfully, but when I connect my remote to the remote input.  It says it is having trouble finding the connection from my usb to com3 interface.  Barry gave me pointers about a year ago.  I appreciate any insight into getting my remote upgraded.

Make sure that you remove the jumper on the TIU, and then turn it off and then back on before updating the remote.

Also, be sure that you're using a 4-conductor telephone handset cable and that the remote is powered off when you start the upgrade. Then, follow the instructions exactly as they appear on the computer screen.

I think that you have to have power to the fixed one input to power the TIU or use the Aux Power Input to make sure you have power to the TIU

The jumper that I believe Barry is talking about is the 1/8 in stereo cable connected between the proto dispatch and the proto Cast inputs.

you do not hold down the power button immediately you wait for the program to tell you to

follow the prompts on the loader program

as far as the usb driver glitch I would uninstall the drivers and reinstall them

I am going to be in the same boat in a bit I have two remotes and three TIU's to do this too

according to the instructions on page 139 you hold the power button on the rewmote down till it finishes the download

How in the world do I hold down on the power button and release without turning the unit on?

You don't do that. Just do what the directions say to do:

  • When told to hold in the button, do so. DO NOT let go until the next message says to release.
  • Release when told to do so and then wait for the next message to hold the button in.
  • When told to hold in the button, do so and don't let go until either told to do so or until the update is completed.

You may be told to hold in and then release the button a couple or three times before the upgrade starts. Once it starts, you'll have to hold it in until completion, about 5-6 minutes. That's why I use a spring-loaded clamp to hold the button in.

Aslo, be sure that your telephone handset cable is 4-conductor.

step 1 Close all running programs on the computer

Step 2 Disconnect all power from the TIU Inputs including Aux Power Input

Step 3 make sure you remove the Cable from Proto Dispatch and Proto Cast

Step 4 Disconnect the TIU from the Tracks

Step 5 Connect the handset cord to the TIU and the Handset

step 6 Apply Power to Fixed 1 or Aux Input

Step 7 Watch the Loader Program for instructions to Hold the power button Make sure the Remote is off and Dark before starting Step 7

the difficulty is from the usb as said in other forums not being reliable to find the tiu.  The hold and release happens in less than a second.  As soon as I hold as per instructions, powers up, ding, release, repeat..repeat...repeat...repeat...  Luckily, I have an additional 4 conductor cable, but I am frustrated with myself because I usually get it.
