I finally had time to connect my TIU to my Win 8 pc with the USB drivers, Downloader 2.30. It allowed me to update the TIU to 4.3 successfully, but when I connect my remote to the remote input. It says it is having trouble finding the connection from my usb to com3 interface. Barry gave me pointers about a year ago. I appreciate any insight into getting my remote upgraded.

Make sure that you remove the jumper on the TIU, and then turn it off and then back on before updating the remote.
Also, be sure that you're using a 4-conductor telephone handset cable and that the remote is powered off when you start the upgrade. Then, follow the instructions exactly as they appear on the computer screen.
Where is the jumper? I am a computer guy, but this is different than what I am used to seeing. It gives the communication error from TIU to Com3 through usb. I have power attached to fixed Input 2, remote on remote input.
got to hold power and release but not updating
still glitchy
cancelling was a mistake, now same result as above
I do have your book, and am not allowing to power on. Just want to match TIU to remote.
I am on page 139 of the DCS manual you created!

I think that you have to have power to the fixed one input to power the TIU or use the Aux Power Input to make sure you have power to the TIU
The jumper that I believe Barry is talking about is the 1/8 in stereo cable connected between the proto dispatch and the proto Cast inputs.
I do understand that. They are disconnected now. I in the perpetual hold and release pattern with the remote. It does not act like it is working because it is almost instantaneous.
let me check Barrys Book and see if i can come up with any help
the problem is when I hold the power button on according to page 139, it turns on. I do the hold and release. Excuse my English because I am going back and forth from my device to this forum
after you got the TIU to update did you shut all of it down and then bring it back up
I did go out of the DCS loader, and I unplugged TIU, and now reconnecting.
How in the world do I hold down on the power button and release without turning the unit on?
Bobbie or Barry, Do you have any suggestions? I thank you in advance. So close to having it completely upgraded.
Windows is bringing a glitch with the usb driver that I downloaded from protosound2 site. I do not have a usb to serial connector or a serial port.
you do not hold down the power button immediately you wait for the program to tell you to
follow the prompts on the loader program
as far as the usb driver glitch I would uninstall the drivers and reinstall them
I am going to be in the same boat in a bit I have two remotes and three TIU's to do this too
according to the instructions on page 139 you hold the power button on the rewmote down till it finishes the download
Rebooted. It still turns on when I hold the power button and then asks for release. Reconnecting to TIU through com3.
It comes up so quickly that it is already turned on. Then it says release, but it does not look like anything is happening. I was able to get the TIU going after a reboot. Am I missing something that I am not doing right? I read and am looking at page 139 of Barry's book.
reconnecting to the tiu through com3.
have you checked the handset cord to make sure no pins are bent and all is in good order
still back and forth with no progress bar
okay here we go we gonna start at step 1

You don't do that. Just do what the directions say to do:
- When told to hold in the button, do so. DO NOT let go until the next message says to release.
- Release when told to do so and then wait for the next message to hold the button in.
- When told to hold in the button, do so and don't let go until either told to do so or until the update is completed.
You may be told to hold in and then release the button a couple or three times before the upgrade starts. Once it starts, you'll have to hold it in until completion, about 5-6 minutes. That's why I use a spring-loaded clamp to hold the button in.
Aslo, be sure that your telephone handset cable is 4-conductor.
This and a whole lot more is all in MTH’s “The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
trying different phone cable
step 1 Close all running programs on the computer
Step 2 Disconnect all power from the TIU Inputs including Aux Power Input
Step 3 make sure you remove the Cable from Proto Dispatch and Proto Cast
Step 4 Disconnect the TIU from the Tracks
Step 5 Connect the handset cord to the TIU and the Handset
step 6 Apply Power to Fixed 1 or Aux Input
Step 7 Watch the Loader Program for instructions to Hold the power button Make sure the Remote is off and Dark before starting Step 7
Barry Sorry if i stepped on toes but I was only trying to help
Bobbie,
No problem at all.
did i have it right though
the difficulty is from the usb as said in other forums not being reliable to find the tiu. The hold and release happens in less than a second. As soon as I hold as per instructions, powers up, ding, release, repeat..repeat...repeat...repeat... Luckily, I have an additional 4 conductor cable, but I am frustrated with myself because I usually get it.
are there any settings within the driver that I need to change to improve communication because I did look under the Device Manager and saw them
for this I am going to have to bow out gracefully and let barry talk you through the rest of this as I am now confused myself
I hope you can get this resolved PRRDCS Good luck
let us know how this goes and the solutions
it would be greatly appreciated
I feel like I am pounding my head against a brick wall. Bobbie, ask me about something else when you have a problem, and I will do my best to help you.
Bobbie,
did i have it right though
