Was working on my friends Herschoff ketch when FLW 2301 "John R Sullivan" went past with a few covered hoppers bound for the salt plant.

Is this in Watkins Glen?
HI,
Sorry I didn't mention where - Doh! Yes, Watkins Glen at the south end of Seneca Lake. Just a single line now, there was a small yard there I used to 'visit' on my paper route or fishing adventures.
I got this picture of 2301 last year in Solvay, NY. I didn't know the railroad existed. It was quite a shock to see something in the old NYC colors. What a treat!
Not a good picture but I had to get it while it was there.
Is that their only engine in the NYC paint scheme?

I remember the first time I saw one of these I was traveling down 96 and it crossed the road in front of me then ducked behind some buildings in Phelps. I only had few glimses after that. I thought I was in a time warp.
I think you'll find most of them parked in Geneva near US20.
Pete
I never knew that RR existed either, in spite of being from NY's Southern Tier and visiting Watkins Glen several times.
I agree - nice to see the NYC scheme.
