Did anyone notice the finish (glossiness(?) on the new Lionel N Young Sig F3 model? I have recently received my F3 AA units and the powered unit has a dull type finish compared to the non-powered unit. The non-powered unit seems to have a high gloss finish. The powered unit seems to have missed a top coat of gloss in the paint room. Do any of you have anything similar? It may not be that noticeable at first, but take note. thanks

A good photo (side by side) might help illustrate your point...

Super O man - this is something you might want to bring to Mike Reagan's attention. I remember some years ago with a Santa Fe Conventional Classics F3 diesel there was an issue with the paint. Lionel then offered the correct paint scheme shells to those who purchased the engines.
You should check with Mike to see if your paint problem is isolated or widespread because most who purchased the Texas Special Neil Young F3's are waiting for the complete sets to be delivered along with the engine. Mike is an OGR forum member and surly will provide an answer back to you. Mike's email: MREAGAN@LIONEL.COM

The finish on the 2001 15" passenger cars was a high gloss. The TS set with the 21" cars was more of a dull finish that is described above. Here are examples of both.

Brian, great photo's showing difference in paint scheme. Now Super O man has to post a photo showing difference between his 2 F3 A units. One glossy and one satin or flat doesn't cut it. I'd really like to see how much difference there is between the 2 A units.

In the above pics, may be hard to tell, but the powered unit (facing left) has a satin type finish, while the dummy unit has a gloss.
Sure does!
Thanks for posting photo's Super O man. Yep, I can see the difference, you did a fine job on the photo's. You should definitely bring this to Lionel's attention. I now the separate AA units have been released but there are a lot of us waiting for the complete TS set with passenger cars. Lionel must be storing the engines until passenger cars are made. If (and I hope you do) contact Mike Reagan about this please keep us posted as to his reply.

I sent him an e-mail, and thanks all you folks.
Super O man - any word make from Mike Reagan on the TS paint?

He mentioned that he viewed the warehouse of 3 engine sets in stock and all seem to have the same finish (problem) as I had noticed. Don't know where it's going from there.

Apparently not. What's certainly of interest is how widespread this problem is. If it is widespread, it's very strange that no other owners have mentioned the problem before on the Forum. It's also strange that no other owners have chimed in yet on this thread to advise about about the colors of their sets.
Quality Control ???

Any further word from Lionel or Mike Reagan on the Neil Young Texas Special F3 paint? I hope they update us on how wide spread the problem is and if it effects the F3 sets being released with the matching passenger cars.

super o man, can't you bring them back to the place where you purchased them? That is a Great Looking engine…….
No further word on the paint finish.
Won't bring it back, the others may be the same, as the dealer is not that close to me..
I hope you make out OK, I sure something can be done to get them to match….
